Recently I was chatting with a friend who says her child’s school would be closing for the summer break first week in July. Wow – already? That got me thinking. For those who have been doing online learning, it is most likely going to come to an end in July. And if school doesn’t resume till September, what are the plans to keep children busy during the “summer break”(July to Sept)? Or would summer break be used to play catch up for learning loss from school closures, internet access challenges, etc?
For most parents, summer camp is mainly about keeping the kids busy but doing something that is fun and creative. In the past, summer camps have all been physical activities from arts, crafts to music to robotics, STEM, cooking, etc.
With social distancing, what form would summer camp take?
One option that comes to mind would be a totally virtual summer camp – virtual reading clubs, virtual STEM camps, virtual language camps, virtual dance classes, virtual hangouts and parties.
Another option would be smaller groups as against large summer camps.
Hybrid option – a mix of online with small groups.
